Vinay Sharva’s concert at Ranjani Fine Arts’ in September 2013 was a memorable one. His strength is a voice with good timber, clear pronunciations in all the languages he chooses to sing and most importantly, a very good training in manodharma sangeetham.
Vinay started his concert with the Thodi varnam - Eranapai, sung in two kalams. Next came a brief alapana of Mohanakalyani which brought out the complete picture of the raga. This was the prelude to the song Siddhivinayakam , a composition of Muthaiah Bhagavathar. A faster paced Ra Ra Ma inti – Tyagaraja’s composition in Asaveri followed. Vinay then presented a beautiful and elaborate alapana of Kedaragowla, which was followed by Thyagaraja's Venuganaloluni. A good niraval at Vikasitha Pankajavadhanalo, with swarams was well appreciated. Next came a soulful rendering of Shyama Sastri's Mayamma in the raga Ahiri.
Vinay then took up an elaborate Ragam, Tanam and Pallavi in Bhairavi. The handling of the ragam and tanam showed his well-developed manodharma, while the Pallavi in Kandatriputa talam in Chatursa Nadai showed his good training. Janakiramana in Kapi, Mudhugare Yasoda in Kuranji (Annamacharya) and a thillana of Mysore Seshanna in Chenchuruti brought to the concert to an end.
H.M.Smitha on violin proved herself to be a mature artist who is able to anticipate and give good support to the vocalist. She showed her good grasp of music in her alapanas of Kedaragowla and Bhairavi. M.T.Rajakesari on Mridangam and Guruprasanna on Kanjira gave very good rhythmic support and showed their skill in the tani avartanam.
