Sri Sarvothama began his flute recital with a varnam in the ragam Sahana. Next came Muthuswamy Dikshithar's Mahaganapathim in Natai followed by some very interesting swaraprasthara patterns. Sri Balu Raguraman reciprocated with well matched phrases and finesse on the violin. Sri Sudhindra on the mridangam and Sri Omkar on the ghatam supported the artistes in an exemplary fashion and all the artistes came together to charge the atmosphere with a lot of vibrant energy. Next came the melodious rendition of Ganamurte in the ragam Ganamurti which created a different mood and depth altogether.
This was followed by a beautiful alapana in Purvikalyani and Sri Thyagaraja's composition Gnyana mosagarAda. Sarvothama captured the nuances of the raga and the lyrics in the elaborate neraval while the rhythmic beauty came to the fore in the exciting kalpanaswaras that followed. Sri Purandaradasa's composition Narayana in Shudhadhanyasi ragam was played before the artistes embarked upon the majestic todi ragam for elaboration. Sarvothama's melodious alapana in todi was complimented by another very beautiful portrayal of the ragam on the violin by Balu Raguraman. The kriti Srikrishnam bhajamAnasa was followed by intricately woven swaraprastharas where the artistes complimented each other in incorporating beautiful mathematical patterns into their music. Sri Sudhindra and Sri Omkar treated the audience to a feast of rhythmic patterns in the Thani avarthanam that followed.
In the thukaddas section, Sarvothama treated the appreciative audience to some beautiful and popular melodies in praise of Lord Krishna like Bharo krishnaiyya (ragamalika ), Govardhana giridhara in Dharbari kanada, Jagadhodharana in kapi and Bhagyada lakshmi in Sri raga before concluding the recital with a thillana in the ragam Dhanasri .
The divine music that was rendered with a lot of devotion and passion in combination with the enthusiasm , energy and spirit of the artistes evoked a charming and fulfilling Gokulam experience for one and all !
